Cornwall is one of the UK’s most magical destinations — and St Ives is always top of the list for my family and me to visit.
Known for its artists, writers and creatives, this seaside town is ripe for discovery and inspiration, from unique shopping to seaside walks.
You never know where the day may take you, so my mini-me and I prepare for puddles, cobblestones - or spilt ice-cream! - by popping on our Merry People wellies before we set off. All day comfort, colour - and cuteness - sorted!
First Up? Coffee!
My family and I like to begin the day at The Yellow Canary on Fore Street to grab a must-have coffee and the most delicious pastries (top tip: the cinnamon bun is non-negotiable!).
Breakfast in hand, we wander down to the harbour, soak up the sunshine, and take in the view.
A Piece of History:
Our first stop is a visit to the RNLI lifeboat station. Supporting the RNLI and their lifeboat crews - which have been saving lives at sea since 1839! - is a cause close to our hearts, and it’s such an important part of St Ives’ history and community. I strongly recommend a visit to anyone exploring the area - even my mini loves getting involved!
Quaint Shopping Surprises:
Next up? Shopping! I am a big fan of independent brands, so I can never go past peeping into Academy & Co on Lifeboat Hill - a must for unique designers and stylish finds.
When we (eventually) head back onto Fore Street, a stop at The Painted Bird is on the list. A true treasure trove of cards, ceramics and jewellery, there is something to discover in every corner.
I could spend hours here, but the temptation to visit The Paper Sailor — a tiny treasure trove of homewares, stationery, wrapping paper, and local artistry nestled in cobblestone Fore Street.
The only problem? It’s impossible to leave empty-handed!
A Bite at The Beach:
The stores are all quite close to each other, so the walking and exploring is a breeze and half the fun of exploring, but as hunger hits, we head to one of our favourites for a bite: Cintra Seafood Bar. The sea views are unbeatable and so quintessentially St Ives, and the vegetarian options are a must-try!
Coastal Discoveries:
Feeling revived, well-fed and comfy enough to keep on exploring, we head along the South West Coast Path to Porthgwidden Beach.
This coastal area is peppered with gorgeous little beaches, and this truly is one of the best! Such a magical coastline of colourful huts, waves for splashing, and plenty of rock climbing in our Merry People wellies! An ice cream at the beach café caps off the day perfectly.
Sunset Stop:
As we begin to ponder a return home, we decide on one more stop at The Island to watch the sun sink over the sea. A perfect way to end a wonderful St Ives day, this moment epitomises all that is truly beautiful about this corner of the world and all its Cornish magic.
There is so much adventure, creativity and history to unlock within St Ives - and no better wellies to do it in than your colourful Merrys!
